Resolved Question: what to do about a hostile work environment?

i just started my job as a pharmacy cashier a month ago. i was hoping to work to earn my tech license and work as a pharmacy technician. i have NEVER worked in a pharmacy and i knew nothing about pharmacy, i was still interested in it. i work at a very busy and stressful walgreens. what is happening is the first few days were fine and everyone was nice and helpful but after that, i was pretty much on my own. it just stressed me out so much because i still don't really know what i am doing and i am trying so hard to learn. i have learned so much, but i have such a long way to go and everyone is now really snippy and very rude to me. i am afraid to just ask a question now! then the front cashier tells me, they all gossip about me and want me out of the pharmacy. now i am shy. and i think they mistake that for being stuck up. they are all about my age and i just think that is so funny how they act like they knew exactly what they were doing right off the bat. i told everyone straight up that i have no experience in a pharmacy and they just treat me like i should know exactly what i am supposed to do. its just creating such a hostile work environment. and no one seems to care. i am not there to make friends, i am there to work and make money, but this is just making it so hard. i really need this job, but how can i work up to my full potential if i am being treated like this? any pointers would be great! finding a new job is easier said than done. the economy is bad or i would have done it a long time ago. and that would look tacky of me to just up and quit. there has to be another way.  more

Resolved Question: How to get a hospital job?

I have applied for the position of medical records clerk/patient registrar to at least 10 different hospitals and 40+ applications for the past 8 months – without any response! I am a health information management student and have learned ICD-9-CM coding, HIPAA rules and regs, and I am proficient in registering new patients, analyzing medical records and patient/physician deficiency analysis. I have experience working as a pharmacy technician and cashier at a gas station. Do I have any chance of getting into a hospital?? I would also consider working at a nursing home or a mental hospital if there are any chances. (I haven’t found a single nursing home’s website with a working application form or email id!)  more

Voting Question: What type of college courses should I take to become a pharmacist?

I'm about to start college and my goal is to become a pharmacist. I'm very interested in their work and I will enjoy learning about all the different types of medicines. The only problem I have is knowing which direction I should take. In order to get accepted into a Pharmacy college, I need at least 2 years of general college. I'm going into the Pharmacy technician program. Is this a good course to start with? I know a little bit of business should maybe be included, but I figure I will be in college for 3 years before I'm accepted. So that extra year I was thinking of taking some business courses. Let me know if this is a good direction to take because if I start college, I want to take the best courses that will take me to my career as a pharmacist.  more

Resolved Question: Help! Any feedback with my new job?

I just started my new job on Tuesday as a Medical front desk. I used to worked as a pharmacy technician & its kind of somewhat similar to what I'm doing now except I deal with more paper works. I like my new job but I felt like I'm not doing well on my training because this is my first front desk job ever & this lady who is in charge (she's friends with the owner doctors) wants me to ask her questions but when I do she just make me feel dumb and she doesn't have a patience. I'm trying not to make mistakes because she tells me not to disappointed her but I make mistakes because all I can think of that I'm not good enough . I want to show her that I can do this but she makes me nervous that I can't focus. She also expecting me to learn everything quick just because I used to work in the pharmacy. So, what should I do to show her I can do this & for her not say anything bad about me to the owner doctor? I want to be really independent and proactive but I have to get familiar with everything first! Plus, I'm not getting train much because my 2nd day I was on my own. Any experience like this or feedback. Please no rude answers. Thanks in advance and have a great weekend.  more

Resolved Question: Anyone been to cosmetology school?

I've been thinking about it for years now, but I was always on the fence about it.. Wasn't sure if I could do it, I have a tendency to doubt myself sometimes.. I'm very unhappy with my current position.. I work at a retail pharmacy as a technician for almost 6 years now, and I don't know how much more abuse I can take.. I have graduated high school, and only went to college for two years. I was taking liberal arts courses which did nothing for me.. I took anything that was required in college, and I felt like I wasn't going anywhere (had to take the same courses that I took in high school only it was much harder).. I don't have any intention of going to school that requires you to take things I already took.. I want to learn a skill.. I've always wanted to do hair.. If I were to go to cosmetology school, what should I expect? Is there anything about it that makes you think you will never get through with it? What's the best part about working in the field? I also have no intention of becoming a pharmacist. I know that it is a promising field, but I know in my heart that it isn't for me.. By abuse at my current job, I mean by both co-workers and customers. A lot of immaturity, talking about each other behind backs, lack of respect, things of that nature.. I also haven't received a raise in two years..  more

Resolved Question: What are some good careers for Washington STATE?

I know I can look online to see which pay the most & that are in "high-demand"... But I want to know from PERSONAL experience. I'm CONSIDERING.....Pharmacy Technician, Radiological Technician, Medical Assistant, Dental Assistant.... something along those lines. Pharm. Tech & Ragiolog. Tech are my top 2 choices so far... My only issue with Pharm. Tech & Radiolog. Tech is that i'm not "the best" at math...I mean, once I learn it ("it" refering to the type of math involved with either career).. I'm really good at it. I'm just nervous as to whether I catch on as fast as the other classmates. My issue with Med. Asst - I don't mind working with people, BUT...In some clinics/hospitals you have to clean up pee, poop, & whatever else.. & i'm just not comfortable with that. Dental Asst- There are not TOO many job opportunities in Washington. My friend graduated this year and she did find a job EVENTUALLY but there wasn't too many places hiring, & if there was, they wanted experience Does anyone else have any suggestions? Or....anyone in WASHINGTON state that are currently working in one of those careers.. tell me how easy it was for u to get your job, salary, suggestions, tips... anything! Thank you!  more

Resolved Question: since English is my second language, can anyone edit this essay for me ASAP, this is a very important essay,?

Leadership Growing up the people closest to me know me as a shy girl, without any confident in herself. However, deep inside I wanted to make a difference in people life. That is why I had run to be Junior class president. With this position, I am is able to help my class getting money for our Senior trip, with this goal, I was able to get everyone in my classmates help out at the Nut Hut. I was able to accomplish a goal of getting everyone working together for one goal. Second, being class president I has to make all the right decision for this year prom from choosing the theme, to where we going to do it. However, all of this work made me feel happy because when I see a smile on my classmates from all of the hard work I had done, it made me feel good inside. I was also a HOBY member, where I was selected from my class to participate in this leadership program. This program teach people how to be a good leader, what they could do to improve their community. With this knowledge, I had brought some of the ideas from the program such as, sorting out glasses for recycle to help out my community. Community Service Helping out my community is the biggest part of my life. That is why I will do everything in my power to help out my community. At my church, there is a program where they giving food to the needy. Every Wednesday, after school, I help out by being in the kitchen giving food to the people, and help cleaning after. I has been doing this project for the past two years, and still planning to volunteer as long as I’m stilling living in Oakland. Doing this program made me feel good inside because seeing a smile on those people faces and seeing them not going hungry is my greatest accomplish in life. My dad passed away early because in Vietnam there was not a medicine to treat malaria. That is why every weekends I volunteer at the Drug Store, as a pharmacy technician counting pill, sorting the medicine, and putting the medicine back to its place. This job not only does it help people to get well, but it also made me feel good seeing them get better. Obstacle The day I was born, was the day my dad passed away. He passed away because there wasn’t any good medicine to treated malaria. After he passed away, my family was in poverty. My mom had no other choice but to let my brother lived with her mom-in-law, and me live with her mom. From a young age I was not able to be close with my brother. I only get to see him during the summer time. However, seeing him had cost my mom and me a lot of pain. From the day my mom married my dad, her mom-in-law had hated her and doesn’t see her as a daughter-in-law, she treated my mom like a slave, make her worked night and day. Vietnamese tradition is boys are more superior than girls. This is the reason why my grandma doesn’t let me lived with her. However, she does let me visit her and my brother during summer time. During this time, I had to worked just like my mom, from cleaning the whole house, to washing the dishes all by myself. All this works doesn’t please my grandma, she still hated, and nobody was going to defended me because my dad had died, and my mom had no power over my grandma. My mom had once told Anh Marrs me, the day I was born, she had never hug me once. From that moment on, I realized no matter what I going to do, even doing what she asked me to do, she never going to love me like her other grandsons and granddaughters. However, I still had my other grandma who love me, in fact, she treated me as a human, despite my grandma love, my school works was began to slipping, she and my mom couldn’t afforded me going to school. I knew my life from that moment on was going to worked at a rice farm, until my mom met Gary, my step-dad, he was willing to bring all of us to the United States. My life was changing when I came to the US, at the age of ten. I has a better life, a better family, and a dad who care for me. Because of the way my grandma had treating me, I had learned to treated people as a human with respect, and not judges people on the outside, and help them out when they are in trouble. My dad death, has made me realized I my future job is to be a pharmacist, helping people with their disease with the medicine available for them, because he died from lacking good medicine. Last, I realized education is the most important thing in my life right now, even though English is my second language, I still getting an “A” for my grade, and drive to go to a medical college. However, children in Vietnam doesn’t have the opportunity that I have right, which is why every year I had send money to Vietnam helping out with their school supplies, because it will help them to continues with their education.  more

Resolved Question: I know you come from another country, but this is about your health....?

I started training as a pharmacy technician 4 weeks ago, paid training for a chain pharmacy. In our part of the country (No Virginia) there is a LOT on controversy about illegals, but this is not about that. Probably 50% of our customers come from Central or South America, and only 35% of those know enough English to answer my questions: Have you been here before? What is your phone number? What is your birth date? Do you have insurance? This is very frustrating for me, as I know a little Spanish, but they give me one name (say Ana Garcia) but the prescription is actually under Maria Ana Ramirez-Garcia, so it would be under Ramirez. A large part of the Hispanic community around here actually get offended if I ask them for id or to spell the name. I guess my point is, no matter how you entered the US, learn enough of the language that your health is not at risk. There will not always be someone who speaks spanish available.  more

Resolved Question: I don't know what to do???

As I have been growing up, my careers have changed.I'm now 26 and is barely going back to college and I wanna pursue in Pharmacy as I have been a Pharmacy Technician for 6 years now...I'm comfortable in this field, and I wouldn't mind goin further to be a Pharmacist. But the one thing that bugs me is how expensive the Pharmacy program is itself. And I can't afford to cut down my hours, and my parents I know are not willing to help, and yes I may apply for student loans, but my credit is probably bad since I'm trying to pay them all off as they go into collections, and yes that was at my own fault, and all I can do is live and learn from it, and budget myself . So I don't know if I should continue to pursue in Pharmacy or back out and go into Speech Languauge Pathology?? Which I have no clue about but to learn..........so really the fiancial part is what I'm hesitant about and if I can really pull through pharmacy!!Please help me!  more

Resolved Question: Graduated from nursing school 3yrs ago , didn't practice b/c i didnt feel it was for me, should i try it agai?

Okay, not enough room up above. But I went through with school because I had went to far in the program to quit. I think I really lacked the confidence and practical skills to be a nurse and I just didn't really like it. As I get older, I wish I did like it, I'm tired of the jobs I have been working that have no future. Also, I've considered going to pharmacy school. I've been doing pharmacy technician translation at a mail order pharmacy for quite some time and I love learning about drugs. The only problem is I don't know how I would afford Pharmacy School, I would have to go in debt even more with student loans....and I don't want to move back in w/ my parents (I'm 24 and moved out of state) any advice? Should I try nursing again with a refresher course or Pharmacy School?  more
